Angela Gillitt photoMeet Angela Gillitt who heads up the MacMillan Cancer Information and Support Unit at the Alexandra Hospital. A warm welcome awaits you. This is the place to go with any questions and concerns when you or someone close to you is diagnosed with cancer.

The unit is designed to help and support anyone whose lives have been affected by cancer in any way. They offer a drop in service which allows people to talk in confidence. They stock a wide range of information on the various types of cancer, its treatments and side effects and how to cope emotionally and psychologically.

Best of all is meeting Angela who is a warm friendly person – even to someone like me who just wants to ask about including the service on our website!

One lady went to have a scan after finding a lump in her breast. She had been clear of cancer for the past 11 years but feared the worst. The radiographer said that she could see something on the scan but needed to consult a doctor. The lady was asked to go for a coffee and return in 30 mins. Fortunately the lady passed the Macmillan Information and Support unit (located close to the coffee area) and was able to go in and talk about her fears and gain the support she so desperately needed at that time. The lady subsequently wrote to say that she does not know how she would have got through that 30 mins without Macmillan.

Let’s celebrate – and use if you need it – this wonderful service! Thank you MacMillan.
